Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery
Date of Last Review: September 2025
The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Document Delivery services provide access to books, journals, and other materials not available in the Evans Library collection. Items typically arrive in 1-7 days. Please note that delivery times are not guaranteed, so we recommend submitting requests as early as possible. These services are available exclusively to current Florida Tech students, faculty, staff, researchers, and professors emeriti with an active TRACKS account.
Document Delivery refers to the scanning and electronic delivery of journal articles and book chapters held in the Evans Library collection.
To request materials, users will log in to their interlibrary loan account using their TRACKS account. Your ILL account allows you to submit new requests, view past requests, renew borrowed items, and download copy request documents.
Additional information can be found on the Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery Frequently Asked Questions page, or you can email us at ill@fit.edu.
Article Requests
Article requests are typically delivered within 1–2 days. You’ll receive a notification through your Florida Tech email, and the file will also be accessible through your interlibrary loan account. Please note that the file is available for only 30 days or 5 views, whichever comes first. To ensure continued access, be sure to download and save it to your personal device, cloud storage, or email it to yourself.
Print Items
ILL is not intended for textbooks. Requests for current textbooks will be canceled. Previous editions may be requested, but availability is not guaranteed. As an alternative, a single chapter can be requested for electronic delivery.
Before a loan request can be processed, you must confirm via email that you are able to pick up the physical item from the library. If no response is received after three email attempts, the request will be canceled.
Print items typically arrive within 2–7 days. Once your item is available, you’ll receive a notification through your Florida Tech email. You can also track the status of your request in your interlibrary loan account. Items can be picked up at the iDesk. Please do not remove any attached paperwork, as it is required for returning the item.
Due dates for print items are determined by the lending library. When allowed, renewals can be requested through your interlibrary loan account but must be submitted before the item becomes overdue.
If you have any questions about your request, feel free to contact us at ill@fit.edu.
Costs
Evans Library will make every effort to cover any costs associated with Interlibrary Loan requests. If a request does incur a fee, students will be notified in advance before the request is processed.
Copyright
All interlibrary loan copy requests must comply with copyright laws and guidelines. Entire books cannot be copied. Requests may include one chapter or up to 10% of the total text. If any copyright issues arise, we will reach out to discuss them with you. Please note that all ILL requests are subject to the policies and discretion of the lending library.
Overdue and Lost Items
Overdue fines for ILL materials may be applied. If you’re unable to return an item on time, please contact us at ill@fit.edu. Any charges for lost or damaged ILL items will be determined by the Dean of Libraries. Repeated failure to follow ILL policies will result in the suspension of borrowing privileges. To avoid fines or issues, we encourage timely communication with the Library.
Request Limits
While there is no limit to the number of items you may request, we ask that patrons be considerate and limit submissions to no more than five requests per day or 15 per month. If you’re working on an extensive research project and anticipate needing more, please contact us in advance so we can best support your research needs.
