Metadata Creation

As you organize your research, your first thoughts may not be about ontologies, taxonomies, data dictionaries, data types, formatting standards, schemas, subject headings, tags, or search engine optimization.  Yet to find what you or future users need from your work, careful planning invested in describing the internal components of your research and then the deliverable units (articles, posters, data sets, chapters, books, maps, graphics, podcasts, videos)--all properly associated with relevant identifiers--will be time well spent.  Tools such as OpenRefine, ORCID or DOIs may play pivotal roles in this aspect of your communication as a researcher and help you get proper credit for your work in the future.  Contact Mary Barker at mbarker@fit.edu for consultations on these metadata topics.
